Default yaosm 3.1 (was 3.0 release 2) - Official thread

This is release of yaosm 3.1. Only the PIC code has been changed to make sure that the region configuration byte in the PIC eeprom cannot be corrupted. (see this thread: strange DMS + yaosm 3.0 issue)

This release is NOT a DVD upgrade. It needs to be flashed to the chip. For those with yaosm 3.0 and who are experiencing the problem, see the next post for instructions and a DVD upgrade that hardcodes your region in the drivecode making it ignore the region configuration in the eeprom.

3.0 and 3.1 is 100% compatible when it comes to upgrades. You can use the region hardcoding upgrade on a 3.1 chip if you want to but it should not be necessary.

Quickstart

1. Reprogram chip with new hex.
2. Use an non-import disc first after programming to autoconfigure the chip for your region.
3. Use the config disc to customize your settings (no GC controller required, try the resetbutton and you'll figure it out).

Changes from yaosm 3.0
- PIC code changed to prevent corruption of the region configuration byte in PIC eeprom.

Changes from yaosm 2.0
- Better Dual Layer support. Supports SSBB on DVD+DL and DVD-DL with or without DVD-ROM booktype as long as your Wii can read the media.
- DVD upgradability. Proof of concept upgrade available on config disc.
- Config disc can now be used without a GC controller. Press resetbutton once to enter yaosm configuration program. Then hold to move the "cursor" and press quickly to change a setting.
- Recovery feature if an upgrade fails.

Configuration bytes (for those who don't want to use the config disc)
Code:

Code:
     Configuration
-------------
This is an explanation of the configuration bytes:

byte 0 = Regionpatching
0x00 = JAP, 0x01 = USA, 0x02 = EUR, 0x03 = disabled, 0xFF = auto (default)

byte 1 = Default speed setting (only affects Wii backups)
0x00 = slow speed (Gamecube speed)
0x01 = medium speed (Somewhere in between)
0xFF = fast speed (Wii speed) (default)

byte 2 = Alternate speed setting (only affects Wii backups)
0x00 = slow speed (Gamecube speed)
0x01 = medium speed (Somewhere in between)
0xFF = fast speed (Wii speed) (default)

byte 3 = Chip disable feature (you may want to disable this if you have a LED connected to pin3)
0x00 = Disable the chip disable feature (no weak pull-up on pin3)
0xFF = Enable the chip disable feature (this is the default)

byte 4 = Not used (autoboot if chip is upgraded with config disc)

byte 5 = Audiofix on/off
0x00 = Disable the Gamecube audiofix (always off)
0x01 = Disable audiofix by default (when powering up the Wii) and enable it by inserting a Wii disc before running your GC backup.
0x02 = Enable audiofix by default (when powering up the Wii) and disable it by inserting a Wii disc before running your GC backup.
0xFF = Enable the Gamecube audiofix (always on)(default)

byte 6 = reserved and used by recovery procedure in case of a bad upgrade. Do NOT change this manually.

byte 7 = Always 0xFF, do not change.

byte 8 and higher = reserved for upgrade patch data

About the proof-of-concept upgrade

The config disc contains a proof-of-concept upgrade. This upgrade adds autoboot feature for Wii backups. This feature can be turned on or off (off is the default) with the config disc. Keep in mind that the autoboot isn't an official yaosm feature because it has a couple of issues:
- Doesn't work on originals.
- Doesn't work on GC.
- Wii normally hangs if you use the home button and chooses to exit to "Wii menu".
- Doesn't work with SSBB backups.
It exists only to show that the DVD upgrade works and that's all.

Have fun!

Here is alternate config discs for yaosm 3.0 users that ARE having this specific issue:

- Backups AND originals suddleny stops working. Only config discs work.
- Turning region patching on with config disc solves the problem until it happens again.

The upgrade on this disc adds autoboot just as the normal discs in the first post in this thread but it also hard codes your region in the drivecode so that it no longer care about what the PIC eeprom says. After applying the upgrade it will have no effect if you turn off regionpatching with the config disc. It just won't care and is therefor immune against the described problem.

I have only tried the PAL upgrade myself but unless I f*cked up it should work fine on JAP and USA Wii's aswell. If not, let me know, and we'll sort it out.

Thanks for the fix Bell, havn't had any problems but will update so I don't have any in the future.

Btw, SSBB works fine for me on PAL Wii v3.2E - Verbatim DVD+R DL @2.4x on crappy MATSHITA laptop burner.

SSBB (NTSC to PAL with trucha signer) doesn't work also as with 3.0 Final.

PIC12F683 on PAL Wii: SSBB doesn't work.
Wiikey on THE SAME PAL wii: SSBB works.

I've changed the versioning numbering... All 3.x release will use the same drivecode and be using the same DVD upgrades. I'll create a thread explaing all this.

I tryed this hex: Current status of YAOSM/SSBB compatibility? (without led).

Now SSBB starts (instead with v3.1 doesn't), but after a while i get read problems and the game tells me to eject the disc and power off the wii.
Same game (as i said before) works well with wiikey.

Have you tried setting yaosm speed (default and alternate) to SLOW?
