I'm guessing they may be trying to add in D2E support? Just a guess.

Just my 2cents worth:

Yes Ryan is right, you do need to protect intellectual property.....even on open source believe it or not. Wii-boss was an awesome chip and cost far more in production than what was ever made profit, thanks to some greedy thieves in china.

From what i can see the wiizard seems to be taking time to make sure it is 100% perfect before release. Without the Jtag this makes their job much harder and will always delay shipping and production. This is precisely why D2pro uses jtag, this way they can finish the base product and ship it out......then make any changes after its shipped out if needed.

D2pro (d2c2 ver) con: Dicky eject on some consoles (could be updated potentially with a JTAG in future updates, so no biggie)

Wizzard Con: No JTAG

To sum up: If the wiizard gets it right first time (which looks likely), then it wont need the JTAG (excepting some unrelated Nintendo update issue). But I am sure that there are plenty of people that like the comfort of having a JTAG for a "just in case".

o and "really" people that complain abought there d2pro chips needing upgraded why do you think there "doucebags" and is that realy how you think of some of your costemers ?

Well they aren't my customers, so no, i don't treat my customers like that.
As I said, if something like this happens again, any bulk customers can send their stock back to me and I will replace with the new version - no worries.

You cared about wii-boss, anyone would. But of course you didn't loose your house over it did you.
You and Jon did a great job....but imagine if you paid some 3d party coder 100k for every console version he cracked.
Say he just cracked d2c2, you pay him the 100k, and then provide the JTAG update file to cloners that just flash d2pro9 clones and sell them for 7usd long time.

People can sit here and complain about having to buy new chips for the new firmware, but you are buying them for a good reason. D2pro do have their costs you know!

Everybody claims every chip is a clone of another. I would say 'inspired by' but certainly not clone. To make a chip updatable it needs to be reversed - not ripped.

Anyway...

/me Fight! Fight! Fight!

lol...... agrees with clinton somewhat.

For that matter Ryan and Daryl both have valid arguments........and that every one needs to put their penis's back in their holsters. :P

I run the philosophy that zero competition is bad for everyone, but inovators really need to be given the chance to at least recoup their inovation costs (inc time) before being "re-inovated" by someone else.

wilcd: Grouper can cost usd$100,000's FYI...... I think you might want to read first then post.

I was nuetral on the matter and was making it quite clear that there were pros and cons to both and was very candid on the matter, in fact i defended the wiizard at one point.

Yes I resell some chips, no more one brand than another....in fact just about everyone in this thread does...../me is not a authorised reseller for d2pro and I have no alliance with any chip producer (besides the now obsolete wii-boss)

So take your flame and go.
