tried and was impossible to use the 3mm led on the back without interfering with the analog stick... i coudlnt press up all the way

tried lots of time.. wtf... even trimmed it a little (the led)

are you trying to put the led in between the plastic and the joystick thing or are you actaully cutting into that plastic behind the stick? you need to do some cutting to get it to work the best IMHO

um can you post digikey link for the led? or any north american online store that sells these 3mm leds? i'm just worrying that i end up with a cool led and it keeps sucking until it burns out, or the battery dies.

I tried to do this mod and found that my wiimote would not function with the nunchuck attached until I added a 50ohm resistor for my yellow leds in the nunchuck. Very cool looking mod

A constant current source would be alot more efficient on lower voltage LEDs like red.
