Default d2pro9 with wii clip no blue or red lights

I recently purchased three d2pro9 along with three wii clip. I shorted the clk jumper on one and started up the console but I didn't get any blue or red lights. It would play originals but would not recognize backups. I tried another and this time the drive wouldn't accept any discs until the wii clip was removed. If I unsolder the clk jumper and solder the "j" wire instead would that work on one of them or is there some other problem?

What type of Wii (d2b, d2c, d2e) and d2pro (v1,v2-green label,v3-blue label) do you have? Have you tried without any jumpers or wires (most work without doing this)? Posting a picture sometimes helps. Did you hear/feel a slight click when you installed the clip? Are all the clip pins straight?

I have a d2c drive. I have a d2pro v2 (green label). I have tried with and without the clk jumper shorted. I haven't tried the "j" wire yet because I don't want to solder to the drive if I don't have to. I did hear and feel a click when installing both clips and they seemed very sturdy. The clip pins are straight on all three of them and the chip pins look fine. I can't take a picture because my camera was dropped and doesn't work properly. I'm really stumped.

I fixed the no lights problem but now I have a new one. I have read alot of posts with people having a steady red light but I'm getting a steady blue light. The first time, the drive wouldn't stop spinning until I shut off the power. After that, the drive wouldn't spin or accept discs and I still had a steady blue light. When I removed the clip everything was fine and able to play originals. Anyone heard of this?

By the way, the the steady blue light is comming from where the red light should be.

What corrected the 'no lights' problem? That may provide a clue to your current issue.

Do you know what version of the d2pro firmware you have? You can find this out by downloading and running the appropriate d2pro 1.7 utility disk. d2pro : Resources

I have the add on piece that is soldered on the 1, 2, 3, 4, points and when I was soldering the d2pro9 onto the wii clip I missed the 3v3 and ground points because they were covered by the add on. I had to solder a wire from the ground and 3v3 to their points on the back of the wii clip.
When the clip is on the drive it won't accept discs so I cant use the 1.7 disc.

Hmmm...so it appears you have one of the original d2pros that needed the SPI soldered on separately. Do you also have a d2prog device to program it with? If I undertand correctly this what you need to get this chip going.

I got the chips from consolesource and I thought they were supposed to be preprogramed so I didn't think I needed the d2prog. I guess I'll have to contact them.

I finally recieved replacement chips and I soldered one of them to a wii clip and I shorted the clk jumper. I am still getting a solid blue light but the drive will accept discs, however, it will only read originals. It wouldn't read the 1.7 utility disk or any of my backups. My backup discs are TDK, Memorex, and Maxell, some are +r and some are -r. All of my backups work on another wii console with a wiikey installed. Do I have to remove the clk jumper short and solder the j wire directly or is there another problem?
