Default Soft modding after twilight hack / homebrew channel dissappears??

I had installed the twilight hack long while ago to get all of the old wads to work, it installed the homebrew channel, but I could get the wads to work, ended up giving up completely on it.

Left it for a while, with firmware updates still active and came across this soft modding thing.

I didn't remove the home brew channel, but it's not there anymore?
I'm assuming that when my Wii was updated, it removed it for me, without my consent, etc.

Any who, just trying to do the soft mod thing (I've followed the for dummies AIOK) but when it gets to the pop up popping up, it doesn't, nothing happens?

I've seen others having difficulties and the general rule of thumb is it must be your memory card, but I've tried transcend, daneelec, kodak and general 3rd party cards and the same thing happens, nothing at all pops up!

I bought an authentic sandisk 2GB memory card, followed the for dummies guide, it formatted the card as before and all the files onto the new partition, popped it in my Wii and nothing, not a sausage!

What do I do to get this thing to popup, should I contact nintendo saying I need a factory reset code because my wii keeps crashing, etc?

Will I loose all my game data saves ( I've tried backing these up, but some of them won;t let me copy all of them?)

Please help, someone, I'm loosing the will to wii !

P.S. My firmware is 4.2E and my chipset is: GC2-D2C (v1)

It's been said SOOOO many times in this thread now that this guide is obsolete and won't work on firmeware 4.x and/or newer Wii's. In fact it can even give you a lot of problems if you try it on a newer Wii.

The post just before yours contains a link to a guide that, according to viperware (I haven't read the guide so I don't know myself) should work on 4.2, you could try that.

@mods: Could you please close this thread or in some way make it clear to people that this guide is obsolete and should not be used?

I can confirm the 4.2 guide I linked to works, I have used it 3 times on 3 different Wii's. They were all NTSC Wii's, but according to the guide, the process works on all Wii's except Korean Wii's.
