Well, I softmodded my wii about a week or two ago, and it was updated to ver. 4.0 everything is great. ^_^ But, I burned some games, and later on I intend to buy some games, too. If the game needs to update, could it potentially brick my Wii? Or should I just let it update?

Skip the updates. If you have already updated to 4.0 manually no game will need updates to run.
