Default A Positive Homebrew Story on a 4.0u Wii

Well, I'm new here. This site was recommended to me by a friend with a modded Wii, so here I am. Great site BTW...

I bought a new Wii and a Wasabi DX chip a while ago and kept it in the box for over a month before I found the time to even try out the Wii. Tried out the game with the supplied games and it was great. Not doing my research before hand resulted in my promptly allowing the Wii to upgrade to 4.0u. Now... as you well know, that's a no-no for homebrew as it turns out. Whoops! Heh.

Anyways, Been messing around with the functionality of the Wasabi DX chip, and decided to look into homebrew... that's when I found out the mistake I made.

Anyways, I on a whim at 1am a couple nights ago, decided to try installing the homebrew channel on my 4.0u Wii console. Amazingly enough it worked right off the bat I have to say. After getting the homebrew channel I did a ton of reading and have now mastered WADs and using the homebrew browser (very cool stuff).

So for those of your tormented by 4.0u, take solace in the fact that it CAN be done. And with what little I knew about it at 1am in the morning with little pre-reading about it, if I can get'r done, so can you!

If you need any details on how I accomplished it, I'd be happy to provide it to you. If not, and it's actually commonplace, then cool. Just thought I'd share a positive story here, as there are so many Oops stories, I thought a good positive one would be great.

Default Awesome

Hi,

that's awesome that you got it all working, and since I have a similar setup to you (4.0 wii with wasabi dx mod chip) would you mind instrcuting me on how you did it? I got the Homebrew Channel installed but couldn't figure out how to get .wads happening. Anyway I've just uninstalled HBC and am going to start again.

If you could tell me how you managed to get it all working I would be stoked.

Here is how I did it. After I completed this, I grabbed the 1.4 Wad manager (just google it), and also grabbed the homebrew browser. This allowed me to install all sorts of cool software on my Wii.

I take no responsibility for bricking your Wii should something go wrong. This is the exact procedure that "I" used and it worked perfectly for me. That's all I claim!!!

So if you'd like to continue, then here you go...

Download This:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ERI99DF8

Extract the files to your SD card then put it in the wii.
Setup Internet Conection
Update your Wii to Version 4.0
Keep Wii Conected To Internet(needed for later steps)

Step 1:
Installing Homebrew Channel
1)Start Wii
2)Click Wii Options(Bottom Left Corner)
3)Click Data Managment
4)Click Channels
5)Click SD Card(Top Right Corner)
6)A Screen Will Pop Up "Load boot.dol/.elf"
7)Click Yes
8)Wait
9)Click "1" on wiimote to continue
10)HackMii Installer will pop up Click Continue
11)Go Up Click "Install the Homebrew Channel"
12)Install Now? click "Yes,Continue"
13)Click Continue
14)Click Exit
15)The Homebrew Channel is now installed

Step 2:
Download http://www.yafaze.com/wii/files/4.0NoCIOSfix.rar

Put the contents on your SD Card as it is in the .rar just drag all to SD Card.

Follow these instructions:

1.Run CMDVDX34 using HBC (Downgrade IOS35 and exit the app)
2.Install IOS35.wad using Wad Manager (any version) (if it fails, it's already installed, don't worry continue)
3.Then run Wad Manager (IOS35 Version) and install the CIOS7.wad

Booyah!! Done.

Now you can run the CIOSrev13b update and start enjoying wii again.

CIOSrev13b installer download , http://www.yafaze.com/wii/files/ciosrev13binstaller.rar

If you get a piracy message run this

"This small tool will delete all the files written in shared2 (settings, hacks) by preloader (and by DVDx 3.4).
I take no responsibility and no credits for this (it's a very small modification of Tona's setting_replace, it's 99,99% his code)."

Keep in mind that BootMii isn't possible to run on the later LU64/LU65 Wii units. Hopefully one day they'll come

Further to my success of Homebrew on my 4.0u Wii, I'm happy to report that I've successfully installed a USB Loader on my Wii. It's AWESOME. Now I no longer have to get off the couch to change games! No more DVDs to lose! SWEET!

The application is tremendous, with the coverflow style interface and downloaded game covers, this is the way the Wii was meant to be used!!!

I'm pleased that it work for you.

If you're interested, here are the steps that I then followed to install the USB Loader on my Wii. Again, I don't accept any responsibility for bricking your Wii. What I list here worked for me. That's all I'm claiming.

These are the steps I used to Install the USB Loader GX Forwarder WAD using a WAD manager (I used 1.4)

Download and install the "WBFS Manager 3.0" Windows based software. This software will allow you to format your USB harddrive to a format compatible with the USB loader. I've tried it with other formats (FAT, FAT32, NTSC) and only got it to work when I formatted the harddrive with this software. This software also loads your ISOz onto the USB harddrive for use with your Wii/USB Loader. It's great software.

Step 1:
First Install the USB_Loader_GX-UNEO_Forwarder_14.06.09 WAD with your favorite WAD manager. As mentioned, I used the 1.4 WAD manager. If you find that it doesn't recognize your harddrive and is asking for CIOS249, then you'll need to follow the steps below. I had to with mine.

Step 2: (only if the USB loader doesn't recognize your harddrive)
- Put the cIOS38_rev Installer on your SD card. (Google it and you'll find it). Put the dol file in a folder in Apps and rename it to boot.dol
- Then put the IOS38-64-v3610.wad in a WAD folder in the same SD card.
- Then run it (the CIOS38_rev Installer/boot.dol) through your homebrew channel.
- Select to install it using IOS249

Accept all the prompts.

The USB loader will now work on your Wii with your WBFS Manager 3.0 formatted harddrive.

Tip: Make sure you have your SD card in your Wii when you're running your USB Loader... The loader can download the Wii covers for your game... Where do you get it to do that you ask? Go to the list view (icons at the top of the screen in the loader) so that you see the "cover" on the left and the list of games on the right. With the "A" button, pointing at the empty cover, select it. The application will prompt you to download the covers for all the games installed on your harddrive. Then you can stay in that display format, or go to the cover flow (my personal favorite) or whatever other one you want...

Enjoy!

Default Cwave, please help.

I accidently upgraded my daughter's wii from 3.3 to 4.0u. I have wiikey 1.
Everything went as you said and homebrew was installed. I thought it was fine. Then when we tried to play a backup game, all we get through homebrew is a logo reading sd disc and then a screen showing water and bubbles. Please advise. Everything installed except iso 35. It s3eems to stay at iso160.
Thanks in advance

I experienced the exact same problem... I thought it was a problem with the homebrew channel install, when it was actually my fault in how I had set up the SD card. I had not set up the SD card correctly. Any homebrew you want to run off the SD card, has to be in an apps directory off the root. Then, place your homebrew (ie: homebrew browser for sake of arguement), in a folder off the root as follows:

ROOT
|
apps
|
homebrew_browser (this represents any homebrew you want to run)
|
boot.dol

In explorer it'll look like this:

L:\apps\homebrew_browser

Always name the .dol file boot.dol . If it's called something else, rename it to boot.dol.

Once you set it up like that (whatever homebrew you want to use), it will show up in your homebrew channel.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I suggest/used the homebrew browser as an example of some homebrew you can run as it's quite cool. Allows you to install all sorts of great things onto your SD card. Once you've been using your SD card for a while and installing all these great apps on it, be sure to back up your SD card regularly, as you wouldn't want to lose all the cool stuff on that card...

Default Help cwave thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. I may have a mistake in my question. I was trying to run game on a dvd. My scandisc is only 2 gb so I have no games on it. Also, no backup games work. Do you play games off disc? Can I get homebrew to read disc?
Thanks in advance

Ok, I'm not at all then familiar with your problem or set-up.

Myself, I'm running a Wasabi DX, and don't actually run anything off DVD. I have my ISOz on a HD attached to the USB port of my Wii. I only run homebrew (VC) stuff off the homebrew channel, not actual games... The games I normally run off the HD. I could however run them off the DVD drive (the old fashion way... heh) but find the USB Loader way WAY faster.

So, you're basically softmodded then, and you have to run your games (DVD based ones) through the homebrew channel? If that's the case, then don't you still have to run some sort of homebrew loader (Gecho OS???) or the like to actually load the DVD copies? If so, then the same thing applies, in that, the homebrew launcher still has to be set up correctly on the SD card for the homebrew channel to recognize it.

Have you used this SD card successfully before with this Wii?
