Default Restoring my Wii to factory default

Hello there,

Its been more than a year since I last kept up with the scene and just coming here now I am just blown away with how much has been accomplished so first of all I just want to say congratulations to all of the developers for achieving what has been achieved so far. You guys really are capable of anything!

So the last thing I did with the wii was play what I believe was the pal version of Mario kart. I seem to recall having to install an update and so I think the wii is semi-bricked. A few months or so after this I believe my brother installed an update from Nintendo and while the wii still boots nobody in my house has used it since then. I want to fully "reformat" my wii and install the latest dashboard version that will allow the home brew channel. I have purchased the mario 64 virtual console game and I have 10 dollars credit in the wii store so I want to backup my wii and mario 64 game saves as well as keep my credit if it is possible.

Can someone advise me as to what I should do? The ultimate goal is to have the latest menu version that will allow the homebrew channel as well as the installation of the homebrew channel.

I have the original Wiikey modchip.
I have dashboard version 3.3U
Thanks for reading

SO Ive Been Doing some research and It seems like it is safe to Install the latest firmware. It will kill the Twilight Hack Though but I will still be able to Install the homebrew channel using Bannerbomb. Is this what I should Do?
