Default Install HBC On 4.0 (Proof Of Concept)

I designed a modded version of "Legend Of Zelda (NES)" Virtual Console channel, which when loaded, loads the HomeBrew Channel Installer. I have confirmed that it will load from SD on 4.0, only if the channel is installed on the Wii. The thing is you must have a Wii with Homebrew Channel to install channels, so that kinda ruins it. It also will not copy from SD to Wii in data management. I am not a developer, so I don't know how to get this working 100%, so I am hoping a developer will try and take this further.

I have attached a .zip that has the modded channel .wad and a "private" folder which houses the channel as a .bin file, allowing it to appear in SD Manager and Data Management.

Hopefully somebody can get this working...

Pretty much all I did was converted the HomeBrew Install .dol file and converted it to a .data file and replaced the .data file in the Zelda VC Channel that housed the game itself with the converted HomeBrew Channel Installer. If I could get a hold on a PAL version of the Zelda VC Channel I will make one for it too.

Have you tried it with an officially bought Legend of Zelda installed on your wii?

Or a Non-modified version of LoZ installed on your wii? That way we may have another cheap exploit.

whats so new about this?

4.0 will not allow trucha signed stuff to copy from the SD to the Wii unless you have the proper cios's installed prior to 4.0.

this all seems to be nothing new. he just packed the hbc into a vc channel. it doesnt get around any limitation and if they do anything with 4.0 it will be a new TP hack not something like this.

Default Interesting...

So did you have some custom IOSs installed prior to doing this? I bought Zelda 1 almost right when I got my Wii. When I try this method it does not work even with the official Zelda channel on the Wii. What I found odd though is that with the official Zelda channel on the Wii if you run the channel you can download here from your SD Card it just runs the normal channel already on your Wii but if it is not currently on the Wii then it will not run the channel at all nor will it allow you to copy or move it to the Wii.

I'm guessing you had to use the HBC to install the Zelda channel that is on your Wii in the first place before running the one on the SD Card. This would work because the channel is stored in your NAND after you have installed it Via the HBC.

Hi, I may be new here, but I came across this topic and it had caught my attention. I know that you have included the files for the modded version of VC Zelda, and I have tried it myself on a non-modded Wii (no homebrew either). It doesn't work, it cannot copy over, it is probably because the file originated from your wii console and cannot be launched on any other wii consoles.

My first question is ;
If I buy the VC Zelda from the shopping channel, then download your modded version onto my SD (This way I'll have one copy of Zelda on my Wii, and one Modded version on my SD). Will I be able to launch your modded version if I buy the normal copy from Shopping Channel?

My second question is;
Is it possible for you to tell us how you converted the homebrew .dol file into a .data, and how you replaced the new .data with the .data in the Zelda VC?

If you can tell us, we may be able to make our own versions since we cannot launch your version of the modded Zelda VC on our consoles, because it had originated from your console.

Good luck!
