Automatic updates from game disc. Is it okay?

I popped in my topspin 3 rental from Gamefly today, and my wii started updating. I quickly turned off the power.

I have a wiikey, and I just normally do the system updates. Just playing it safe, is it okay to go ahead and let the game disc do whatever update it's trying to do?

Please advise.

I just tried mario kart and just like topspin 3, the disc started updating. These are retail geniune games.

I have a wiikey and I'm ntsc. Is it okay to allow the game to update? If anybody could chime in, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanx again!

NTSC Games and NTSC Machine = OK to update

JAP/PAL Games and NTSC Machine = Semi Brick or Brick - Not ok to Update

To my knowledge the only update released so far that effects anything Mod related is the one which disables the Trucha Signing and that is 3.3 this also makes it more difficult to execute the TPH and Homebrew Channel but it can be done...
