At the risk of being flamed....what exactly was dumped here...was it the Wii's bios? what exactly can be done with this? Can someone break this donw to someone who knows nothing about chip dumping?
It was the "System Memory", or the place where your console settings, saves, VC downloads, extra channels, and Mii's are stored.
Many people are hoping it will lead to VC cracking. I, myself, hope it will lead to a fix for that %$#$#@ WiiConnect24 setting bug.
I've been in touch with the Infectus team for awhile. I wasn't sure if they were legit when they first popped up around the net, but they are def for real. I've actually gotten them to send me a couple chips for testing, I should be getting them soon. This is going to be a fun project.
Why not just remove the nand and dump it with a programmer, to be honest, it would be much easier this method than to solder all those wires on................
questions.
anyone know which programmers supprt this chip type.
Anyone know where to buy a cheap ( i know, i mean cheapest) adaptor for this type of chip/package.
Is there no way of sticking this nand on a USB stick with the original nand removed, and using that to read out the chip? I know those clever people over at xboxhacker have been investigating this before, for the 360.
arakon, any thoughts?
the above questions are not me being lazy, i`m going to look into this myself now.
I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think that the nand is protected, and I don't think you can dump it with a programmer. Well you could, but you would get nothing but garbage data. I'm not really sure why the infectus aparatus will work, but apparently it will.
Everyone, remember that the wifree is based off of WAB's work with modcheap... So don't flame please.
On another note, when M$ 360's firmware was dumped, it was never released on any forum. To this day every modified firmware release is stored on offshore servers only accessable through IRC/FTP.
WAB, nice work, but how will and encrypted hex dump help without knowing exactly how the data is stored?
