Default Wii appears low level bricked (black screen at boot), no mod chips. Can it be saved?

Hey all

Alright, long time in the mod scene (back from the old ezoray days). I've never had a problem i couldn't get working eventually....till tonight

USA NTSC Wii, looks like original series stock, purchased sometime in 2007. Recently updated to 4.0.

Successfully installed HBC via bannerbomb, but did not install much more than that (no starfall, no preloader, no bootmii). Rebooted several times to make sure mod was good.

After rebooting, we used Homebrew Channel to launch Wad Manager to install wads. After installing some tools and utility wads Channels (FTPii, wad manager, etc), we attempted a reboot via the use of the wiimote. no joy, it hung. Held the power button for 5 and got red light.

Now, here come the problems

Hit power button on the wiimote and i get green light plus a screen mode change (my TV recognizes that the wii is sending out a signal). The wiimote never syncs however and I never get to a health screen, much less anything else.

After research it SOUNDS like i have a corrupt NAND/low level brick, though honestly i haven't got a clue how....based on the fact that the unit powered on fine after install of HBC and Gamma Loader, and didn't display any "brick" issues until after some Wads were installed. Based on what i was doing at the time, this should be a bannerbrick, but based on what i'm seeing, it's a low level brick.

I've tried multiple times to use the "savemiifrii" approach using a 3rd party wireless controller, but the unit never displays any type of firmware notification, so i have no actual clue if it's working or not. Furthermore, there is no chip in this wii, so i couldn't use an autobooter yet...this was merely an attempt to see what might be going on

I don't have a backup of this wii's nand, but i do have access to a fully functional and modded Wii (YAOSM with homebrew channel).

I need to get this bricked wii working as quickly as possible, and i'm stumped.

Does anyone have any advice?

Sure wish you installed bootmii prior to bricking, you would be saved.

yes well, i'm aware of this fact. I also wish i had starfall or preloader or SOMETHING on it. We never actually got that far. Bannerbomb installed, a couple of test reboots, then a few channels to prove functionality. Eventually, full downgrade to 3.2 and install of softmii was the plan.

I'm still not entirely sure what caused the brick. The mod itself was solid, noted because of the reboots. The failure didn't come till after wads were installed. This made me think it was banner brick or duplicate channel semi brick, but it sure as hell didn't look like either

i'm reading that an infectus 2 and bootmii should be able to get the unit to boot up again....since this is an older wii, boot1 is still affected by the signing bug, which allows boot2 to be resigned. I'm assuming that my boot2 on this system is screwed since i never get to the health screen. From what i've read, if i install the bootmii code on the infectus 2, it should be able to inject the working boot2 from the bootmii code into place after boot1, allowing the unit to load an auto launching disc, such as the universal brick fix.

I'm still left with the problem of rebuilding/reflashing boot2, which some have fixed by removing the nand from a working wii with bootmii installed and soldering it in place in the dead wii. Infectus then works it's magic, and you can pull out the keys needed to do a possible rebuild on the original nand

the problem with all of this for me is that i don't have, nor do i want to try to obtain, an infectus chip. i REALLY don't want to try to do this one on my own either....having 1 dead wii is bad enough, but accidentally killing a second while getting the first working iss totally unacceptable.

So, anyone have any actual helpful advice?

How does an infectus 2 help? I have an Injectus, and Argon, but no Infectus 2.

appreciate the words stating you'd be helpful if you had something to go with, but i'm still hoping others on the boards have an idea, or at least can confirm with me that the bootmii option will work before i go and start doing it
