I think we are better off if something like the PSP's Pandora Battery is made for the Wii. This way we could fool all we wanted with the Wii and always be able to recover.
The recovery menu in Custom Firmware on the PSP does no good if the entire firmware memory is corrupted.
This downgrading could be useful if Nintendo decides to patch the TP hack.
Right now Custom Firmware is not necessary since all current hacks work.
IMO, I think it would be more important to figure a way to run the system menu from the SD card since we would be to run any version of the system menu we wanted and still be able to run the Homebrew Channel.
Of course none of this matters until Nintendo updates the System Menu to use IOS 37.
I do hope that bushing and the other pro Wii hackers can find a way to patch IOS 37 and deactivate the Trucha Patch like we can with the Error 001.
Unfortunately Nintendo can update boot2 cause I've seen a boot2 wad in the update partition in many games and I'm sure it can updated via the internet too.
I guess it's time for this to actually recieve some attention, as we were all faced with "the message" as we turned our Wii's on. For those without WiiConnect24, you surely have read the news...

No, no it shouldn't.
Tell me something. If you can't put a twilight hack save on your system in order to boot twilight hack to run homebrew... how exactly do you expect to downgrade your system?

This is STILL useless and will always BE useless.
There seems to already be claims that there is a Twilight Hack workaround that is currently not released.
However if this workaround allows people on 3.3 to run homebrew again, but they would like their trucha-signed discs to work again, this would become useful to them.

It's much safer just to edit trucha signer to work with 3.3 than to have that downgrader released. It may seem "cool" or the easy way out, but if ya ever bricked your system you'd wish you never downloaded it in the first place.

No, the fix for trucha signed discs involves modifying IOS, not downgrading your wii. That or fixing a new signing exploit. This has nothing to do with downgrading firmware.

Perhaps I just don't see whats so scary or dangerous about firmware/system updates, I've done things like this on PCs to TVs, I've even let the Wii update itself sometimes. I have even went so far as to open up the Wii and solder in new chips.
It would be safer to edit trucha signer to work again, but I couldn't do that. I could use a downgrader and then pop in my MarioCart disc (with it's system update) and be back where I was. If it fixed my issue, then yeah it would be "cool" and easier, for me. I'd not have to re-sign my discs with a new trucha either.

You're missing the most important point. If you upgrade, and therefore need to downgrade, you CAN'T RUN HOMEBREW so how do you expect to run a downgrade utility even if you were dumb enough (s/dumb/brave if you really care to play simantics) to risk bricking your wii with it?
Bushing and Marcan have already come up with a solution. There is no need to downgrade your wii nor will there ever be. Since I don't think this was linked yet, you should read this:

I didn't miss it, I thought I even addressed it 3 posts earlier, you even quoted me.
