It's really random to see all this going on. I remember a while back people were praising Waninkoko left right and centre, now they dislike him for whatever reason. That seems to be the main issue here.

It's interesting that people are now quoting stuff from maxconsole - yet there was a lot of maxconsole bashing going on for some time too. There's always a scapegoat around here. Divineo, maxconsole, waninkoko. Who will it be next month? Get over it and play your damn wii console already. If you want to have days of our lives, go do that with Taylor and her long line of husband/husbands evil twins.

If you don't like Waninkoko's stuff - don't use them and STFU. If you do like them, use them and tell us about your experience with them - good or bad. That is how people will really know if they're good or bad. Whinging and specualting from half assed experts will get us nowhere.

If you want to criticize Waninkokos tools, then please, offer some alternatives. Constructive criticism will help to develop this sort of thing or show that it can't be developed. Sitting around and calling waninkoko names and saying that he's a shit coder doesn't do anything remotely positive.

This is an online community. In normal communities, if people sit around and whinge and offer no help and do nothing valuable, then others pretty quickly tell them to piss off and take their whinging elsewhere. The same should be happening here. If the only contribution you can make is whinging, compaining, name calling and criticising then you should piss off. If you have genuine ideas and ways forward, join the discussion. If you don't, take a back seat and keep tabs on what people are doing.

If everyone who claimed to be a software developer, or an expert in code, or whatever they call themself actually helped and contributed then we would be miles ahead. Instead, we have childish attitudes from little big men who feel that they have to jump on the bandwagon.

If you don't like Waninkoko's stuff don't use it. Simple. No one has a gun to your head.

They're not Wanikoko's tools, they're Marcan and Bushing's tools. Wanikoko took a function that Marcan and Bushing wrote and made it do something stupid and extremely dangerous. Bushing and Marcan will release alternatives when it's NEEDED, not months ahead of time when it won't do anyone any good. If you read the link to Maxconsole where Marcan and Bushing explained everything you'd understand that.

I never claimed to be an expert in code, and neither has anyone here. I write C# and .Net code, database work, and web design. That's a complete 180 from the things that Marcan and Bushing do, that REALLY deserve our praise at this site. I only used that as an example of writing code that is SAFE to run and doesn't give a risk of bricking the system it's run on.

The arguments presented in that link you give are ridiculous.

Here's one from Marcan:
"For starters, I coded the entire suite of easy installer functions that he uses in his stupid WAD installer / uninstaller / manager."

So what is stupid exactly? The application that Marcan wrote the code for? The fact that Marcan knowingly gave him the code? Or the fact that Waninkoko released it. What is stupid about it exactly?

Here's another:

"They're also just wrappers around existing functions and extremely simple to write. He just happens to be really good at figuring out how to use the APIs."

Ok, so the great Marcan, who you all seem to be holding a torch for, gives in and mentions that his old friend Waninkoko is good at doing something.

This is ridiculous. If you don't like the software. Don't use them. There's plenty of warnings about the dangers of it.

If you feel like mucking about with it, hell even learning about it and doing because you can, then go for it. Do you think Marcan and Bushing learnt by always taking the nice, safe way of doing things? Probably not. I bet they've taken some risks here and there.

If you don't like it, fine. If you don't want to use it, fine. If you want to sit there and belittle someone, call them names and be a self righteous ego pumping tool, then go away.

If you want to help with the homebrew scene, jump into the IRC channel with all the homebrew uber nerds and realise just how out of your depth you really are. You're providing absolutely nothing with your name calling nonsense.

This all reminds me of 14 year old girls in high school complaining about some BS issue. Homebrew coder A doesn't like it that Homebrew coder B is getting more famous, so Random forum poster A through F have to whinge about it because they're such huge drooling fanboys of Homebrew coder A.

One thing Marcan did say:
"We're just trying to set things straight. You know, so you don't end up bricking your wii when you decide to try it for no reason at all."

I think Marcan has been pretty succesful in what he set out to do. The scene doesn't need infighting and childish activity like this, especially not from people who have no relation to the projects going on.

For those ranting on about how useless it is, shutup now please.
It is what developers like to call a Proof of Concept, hence no release.

This example is somewhat useless, but in the future, should some of us accidently update onto versions of the Wii Software that block specific functions, but we don't realise it quicky enough... downgrading is possible.

If not just a POC, it was done because it can be done.

Get over it.

Damn straight. I took the strings off my bass guitar and replaced some strings to play with different tunings. It will be useless to me in a live gig context, but I wanted to try it to see what it would be like. Quite simply, because I could.

sigh... I have read through this tread for sometime, god for I don't know why!

They all make great tools, we all probally used atleast 1 tool from everyone of them, if we for say installed the Homebrew channel, or installed our WADs?

Anywho, sure this thing aint needed yet, he just prooved it can be done, safe or unsafe.
Everything starts with a first step doesn't it? The first step most offen is an unsafe step.
So, I don't care about this tool right now, we its needed these coders will (I hope) provide the tool that is needed.

So, can we all give it a rest? It was just a proof of concept, that it can be DONE!

By all means Where is Marcan's wad installer o he didn't release one o well hmm ok guess I would rather go to the person doing the releasing. Really its funny though because this is how the world works Wanikoko is the developer where as the others code the first part and he goes and finishes it and publishes it for the consumers. Video games are made basically the same way Nintendo made the wii Hardware and developers make the Software.

Everything works this way a publisher of books publishes the works of others for the consumers (thats us btw if you didn't know)

Marcan and the rest of them can get off there Fucking high horse at leash Wanikoko gives credit by stating that they did most of the coding yet you blindly act like you understand how this all works when you obviously don't without Wanikoko it doesn't look like we would ever have got an wad installer unless someone else came around and got it set up for the community. Please go be a one sided fan boy somewhere else.

Not a fanboy at all, I just use the software, I don't even protect anyone actually.
And I agree, I always try to use the software from the developer.

Most of what Frozen-Solid said i partly agree with. I don't think we need to degrade the firmware. We have everything we want and we can get what we want pretty safely. I don't see the point in Waninkokos even mentioning this application apart from showing the wii community this what he has achieved.

He has publicised his video on youtube, one of the worlds biggest video sharing sites.
In my opinion this will bring too much attention to what he has done. Nintendo can easily say "we should stop this before it gets out of hand".
And this could halt all other underground projects that actually have some good purpose. I don't want to see great homebrew projects going to waste due to some guy wanting to show what he is capable of.

The benefits that have come of this is that the wii homebrew is going at a great pace

Lets face it, Waninkokos is a idiot. He makes hacks that are dangerous. Anything dangerous should be banned an made illegal. Hold on... I think my son is climbing a tree, I'm calling the police right now.

Lets face it, Waninkokos is a loser. He hacks the Wii. People need to stop hacking the Wii because if Nintendo finds out they might get mad and start taking action. Do you really want to read another company statement about money lost from piracy? No, so lets ban any Waninkokos hacks from being posted on this site. That way Nintendo will never know.
