BitTorrent can vary in speed. If you are configured properly and get lucky you can get pretty fast. But nothing can top the speed of a good Usenet provider. Yes, you have to pay for it, but you can get good access for $15-$25 a month. It's worth it if you leech like I do. And Usenet is the least targeted of any major download source.

Don't you have to pay for usenet anyway? I'm not sure, but I heard that usenet is highly targeted by the government.

You're much more likely to be caught downloading a torrent than downloading from a usegroup.

Good Usenets erase all download records periodically as a client protection thing...torrents track your IPs and therefore it's easy to catch you.

Also it's a far worse crime to distribute warez than it is to download, I think. (not sure on that one)
