Default I bought a dvd rom but its not working

I got this rom off a guy from ebay. its an external dvd rom. He posted it as the GDR-8164B. When i loaded the rom it says its a GDR-8082N rom. he says "The GDR-8082N ROM is the slim line version of the GDR-8164B" and to check the wii forum. please tell me this is correct. it runs normal dvd disks just not the wii disks. is there something i am doing wrong? i tried running it through raw dump 2.0 and the dvd rom just keeps spinning trying to read the disk. no error message or anything just keeps spinning. please help a buddy in need thank you

edit: am I supposed to use "firmware" or whatever that is. please help

Did you resolve the dvd rom issue. I seem to be running into the same issue (wii disk just keep spinning and no read). When I ran rawdump, it did say that it is a wii disk but could not get any additional info (title, region etc). Let me know if you have solved this problem. Tx
