Content fits browser width

I would just like to start by saying it is amazing this site is back online so quickly and I appreciate everything people have done. But I thought given the fresh start, I would raise an issue now, whilst changes are no doubt being made.

At the moment, a browser needs to be 1150 pixels wide in order to display this site properly. Any larger and the content resizes to fit, as it should, but smaller just results in horizontal scroll bars, a big no no of design.

Many people have screens of 1024 x 768 or less, and others prefer not to maximise their windows. Could we make the site at least work with 1024 pixels wide, and even smaller if possible.
