Wii Wii Firmware 4.2

News Source: Wiibrew

WARNING: DO NOT UPDATE YOUR WII CONSOLE!!!

Nintendo has released an updated System Menu in their efforts to curb piracy and homebrew. This update will even kill BootMii and Preloader. Still think softmods are a good idea?

Quote:
Hard Changes?

* Deletes most homebrew.
* Now uses IOS70. (No Preloader due to that)
* Wii Shop Channel updated. Use WiiSCU to update the shop channel. Use NUS Downloader to download the Wii Shop Channel v17
* Most of the IOS's have been updated or stubbed.
* Updates your boot2 to boot2v4 (what LU64+'s have). (That means no downgrading of any IOS, and due to that, you can't revert back to your old System Menu. So BootMii as boot2 installed is removed.)

Wii Menu version 4.2 is now available for your Wii console. To update your Wii Menu to the latest version, please select the Update button at the bottom of the screen or select the System Update option in the Wii System Settings.

This update provides behind-the-scenes fixes that will not affect features but will improve the overall system performance.

Because unauthorized modifications to save data or program files may impair game play or the Wii console, updating to Wii Menu version 4.2 will also check for and automatically remove such save data or program files.

**Please note: If you've updated your Wii Menu after 9/29/09, you may not need to update again.

Thank you for updating your Wii console!

Thumbs down

This update also blocks BannerBomb.

I guess now prices of Lego Indy will jump from almost nothing to hundreds of dollars, like Zelda was when it was the only way to do something.

But personally don't have Lego Indy, so can't test my updated Wii to see if I can get anything back into it.

Also most of the new Wii's in the stores are the LU701+ series, which even tho says v4.1 on the system menu, it seems to have a new set of files, and only been able to get the Homebrew Channel installed, but nothing else afterwards works.

Why? 4.2 works good. install everything except of ios222, ios223, ios 249, ios 250 and boot2. Don't forget, that you need an alternate loader channel.

To prevent my little bro from updating the Wii I restricted the main disk channel to only loading games rated 'Universal' (he doesn't have any of those!). Know he's forced to load all games through the Homebrew channel (Gecko OS) . lol

4.0 FTW!

Default When I used discs......

I used WiiUR to get rid of the update request from games.
I still use it on my iso's for usb loader.
I am still on 3.2E.

This is why modchips are better. You don't have to worry about anything like this.
