This is very easy to patch.
#1: You need to copy the stuff from the sd card to your Wii.
-- next update Nintendo will just check for this, like the Zelda save,
and delete it upon updating, or stop it from being copied.
Until someone finds a exploit that does not need to use the systemmenu
for anything, not even copying the save file over, or running a file without
leaving any traces in the save menu it will be easy for Nintendo to patch
on updates.
I like the Bannerbomb much better, no booting of game, and no copying
of files, and no trace of left-over save file in your memory to scan for on
an update, of course patching the crash of the loading of the "banner" is
easy for Nintendo also, as it uses the systemmenu which will be updated
asap, if not already done or in the works by the big "N" staff.

Hi gary, you are certanly right but from my experience bannerbomb is not working on all Wiis, this new exploit, i presume, will be more stable.

From what I saw, the exploit was through the game? So aren't you technically not even near the system menu?
Aside from privacy issues, I think Nintendo might have some issues deleting stuff from your SD without permission.
Especially if you lock it?

It involves the Stage Builder, which as far as I know, uses the SD card. If that is true, nothing needs to be copied to the Wii. This exploit exists on the game and the game reads the file off of the SD card. Obviously, current versions of the game cannot be patched.
I doubt that they would delete the file off of your SD card without your permission. However, I'm guessing that they could either patch IOS36 or, like GeckoOS/Ocarina, patch the game on the fly through the System Menu. However, that could be very risky, and cause compatibility issues with Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and possibly other software which uses IOS36.
I like BannerBomb too. However, as you stated, that is much easier to stop, as Nintendo can actually fix the exploit, instead of trying to prevent the exploit from being executed.

You can store stages on either the Wii internal memory or you can store them on a SD card.
The only way to copy stages to and from the SD card is through the game as the stages on the Wii's memory are stored within the 128 Block Brawl save file which normally cannot be copied.
My question is, is the vulnerability in the game or the IOS?
If it's in the game then the only way Nintendo can patch it is to release a new version of the game, which is good for us since all current copies are vulnerable. If it is in the IOS than it can easily be patched.
Since no System Menu is used, you can't simply patch on the fly.
I believe Brawl is a popular game like Zelda so most people probably have it.
Also, you don't have to insert the SD card until you want to enter the stage builder so if Nintendo does try to put a check in the System Menu it would be useless.

The SD locking system is software based. If that software (in this case the IOS or the game) is not coded to read the lock tab's status, and care what that status is, then the card is not locked.
