The soft mods are limited to 3x because of the nature of the softmod hack it uses undocumented dvd calls which are limited to 3x

This is hardware and it will still be patching the raw dvd control lines so im guessing it will be 6x as normal

You can't patch the drive through the dataline. Or else the softmods could do it too. That's the point.

This thing will "only" translate DVD-video-calls to DVD-game-calls. So basically it does what the softmodes do, but on a hardware level and thus doesn't have the problems with incompatible IOS-versions etc.
But it will still run at 3x, you can't change that.

I agree that the FlatMii should have had this functionality from the start. Perhaps they still can with an upgrade. At the very least they should start producing a FLATMII2 if they can't upgrade their current product.

Yeah this is the real deal easy install.. even if the chip is locked at 3X..lookit wiikey1, still running flawless at X3.. Really a non issue as load times are minimally effected..

Im sure the d2pro team will build in a bitch factor that only us modders will want to deal with and "not" the general public..Hopefully they didnt just make it wayyy to easy to mod a console. I guess we will see if anyone else follows suit with this type of chip, or somebody developes a good ol solder to board for D3 and d2nothing chipsets..

I havent seen or heard of anyone else with a solution for these newest drives... Nintendo might have finally gotten smart and locked off the ports internal to there new multichip.. The good news is there is a solution for ne wiis.. might not be as good, but a solution non the less.

solder is better, especially when it eject issues so we can play with alt GND and PWR points or different placements.

But this chip looks promising

I'm 99% sure it will be limited to 3x drive speed - for now
does it matter? Not really. If a customer could choose between eject issues with wiikey/d2pro etc -- or no eject issue and their games takes 1~3 more seconds to load, i think they will choose DriveKey.

Its cheaper than FlatMii... FlatMii has a lot of components so the hardware cost is a lot more.
