Personally I don't like this policy and that's why I hope d2sun will come out with an alternative solution.

d2sun are too busy making 15 different modchips to be near the level they need to be at.

No one will have a d2nothing drivemod solution besides these guys for atleast 2 months i am randomly guessing

It uses the flat cable, I'm sure... right? I mean, wouldn't it make sense to use the flat cable with logic/hardware that can read backups and discs the same way DVDX and backup loaders can? That would work with any drive. If the limitations were from doing that with Wii overhead, those limitations woulod no longer be relevant with hardware doing the work.

But isn't that what we have from the D2Pro team? We have the D2Pro, the WiiKey2, the D2Lite, and the XenoWii. That's 4 chips.

From the D2Sun team, we have the 1.3A* series, the 1.5* series, the 3.0* series, and just released the V3Pro. That's.....4 chips!

Like David, I think I'll wait to see what the D2Sun team comes up with. And I like that its easy to get in touch with the company if you're an average Joe and not a distributor.

Now, its true that the chips may not be as full featured as the D2Pro/WiiKey2, but we're only missing DVD upgradeable functionality and a config disc. The original D2CKey had neither of those, and its still working quite fine!

Ultimately, it will be whoever makes a chip that has no eject issues or anything else of the sort. Perhaps someone will decide to stop the arms race to lower wire counts, but maybe not.

May the best team with the most affordable, high performance solution win!

well here is my opinion on the d2pros and d2suns...

d2sun made several versoins of the chip but each versoin just add features added like reduce wire count...add usb upgrade...add on/off switch etc...

d2pro had bugs and instead of fixing current batches of chips with an update you had to buy another revision of the chip or send it back for reflashing...

Possible, but that would limit you to 3x drivespeed, instead of 6x.
Maybe a combination where you solder one wire that kicks the drive into 6x and the rest done with the flat cable could be possible...

Another way to look at it is that the device is limited to the maximum speed of the bus that the drive is connected to but can only read from the disc at 3x (unless this, too, is a limitation that can be overcome with a direct interface without the CPU overhead and limitations of software methods). This means that, even at 3x, it could buffer the disc into memory during idle periods and actually load faster than a disc alone ever could. It'd be like a return to the days of RAM cart backup units except that even as cheap as DDR2 is these days, flash memory is even cheaper and makes more sense.

Of course, I could just be dreaqming. It could just as easily be another chip with a high wire count and a difficult installation.

Actually nowhere.
Anyway
1. Can you find a jtag update for d2nothing on d2pro official site?
2. They have not released the d2e compatible firmware yet.
