I don't think it will be an issue if you dont upgrade
if they start changing Wii Discs, the upgrade can be patched out of the ISO...

Absolutely agreed.

Yes, it' would be an interesting solution, but it would make it easily detectable by a Nintendo update just like a softmod.

Even if it emulates a working disc drive it still has to bypass the signing Nintendo presses to the discs.

I never said that it would be blocked if you don't update, if you don't update then they can't patch it out of you're wii (unless you are on 3.4 at 3.4 they can patch anything at any time) If they change the IOS the disc uses then patching them to IOS30 would work fine. This with a modchip would be a great combination, but in the long run there is a good chance that an ISO homebrew launcher will be released at some point and that would make this almost worthless.

I would imagine it would be great for those with children as well. The idea of being able to play that barbie game without burning it first is worth the cost alone.
Test? How much do your blank media cost you? Mine are a hell of a lot cheaper than getting lots of storage space.
If you have say a library of 150 Games, this would be approx 675 gigs of space. Compared to around £20 in media. I certainly don't mind paying £20 to save using up 675 gigs of my space. And also the convenience of just having it there permanently in case anyone wants to try it again in the future. The amount of times I've played a game, thought it sucked and tried it again later and got into it properly

This is true but good DVDs are non rewritable while someone who has a 200-300GB external HD laying around might want to just stick a few games on that it would be quick and easy. Also keeps you from having to find cases for all 150 games (that you want people to believe are "backups" :P).

Well if the signing Nintendo presses to the discs is not present inside the iso then it could be stored in a database, dynamically hooked to the iso and emulated as well, I guess.
