Interesting Question! I honestly don't know for sure, but I don't think so: 100% Compatible with drivemods it says on the feature list on the website.
I'll hope to have answers for everyone tomorrow after I get a little shut-eye.

incredible...
they make a 100% compatible software emulator of wii dvd drive.
questions: i think wii can get DVD drive s/n. Using FlatMii as standalone device, what will be the s/n of drive? Every FlatMii has a different s/n? Is possible change S/N of FlatMii standalone to be like the original DVD drive? How much flash memory FlatMii has?
Maybe if it has enough memory, they can release a version to use with a USB-SATA/USB-IDE bridge.

Again, incredible work.

surprised this didn't show up sooner since wii is basically an upgraded GC and they had an SD drive replacement for GC since around the time the wii came out.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on these

I can see Nintendo blocking this pretty easily honestly, they have to be using exploits to get this to run in the first place (IE homebrew) nintendo patches the homebrew and this stops working until the next workaround comes about. If you are like me though then you never found reason to go past 3.2 and should be fine.

What exploit are they using then? To me it seems all it does is intercepting the dvd drive data cable and emulate a working dvd drive by sending the gamedata over the usb instead out of the dvd drive

I might be alone here but what the hey, i'm gonna give my two cents.

A PC based backup loader is NEVER going to replace a modchip, no way no how. If I told customers they could do it for free but they'd need their pc, they wouldn't be interested.
They would say, install a modchip, I want it to work how its supposed to.

Its nice, emulating the dvd, thats cool but not enough for me for one. Modchips are cheap so why would anybody use this as a solution over a modchip?
All anyone wants to do with a chipped console is for it to be as close to normal as possible, having your pc on all the time and in use whilst using your wii, its just not right.

At the mo I don't have a chip installed so it looks like a possible solution that would work and I would try but only if it was freeware like the backup loader. And the schematics made public. If you need to buy anything, why bother, just get a chip

I for one love the idea of being able to have a normal modchip, AND this passthrough device. There are tons of games I would prefer to test before backing up onto a disc. The idea of keeping most of my library on my pc is great, especially considering there are only a handful of games I need to keep with the wii for parties etc.

I would imagine it would be great for those with children as well. The idea of being able to play that barbie game without burning it first is worth the cost alone.
