Wii SaveMiiFree

Someone has posted a YouTube video showing how the functionality of the SaveMii dongle can be achieved using nothing more than an opened GameCube controller!

I'll be d... it really works!
The joystick is opened to eliminate the plastic dab that keeps you from pushing all directions at once.
Very nice find!

Edit: took me 2 minutes to try it and 15 after that to find all the screws and parts...

Actually the controller i have is broken but as I can see all i need to do is open it and remove the plastic dpad and press on all for buttons. The plastic of the joystick is broken and that should be a problem

By the way,This works with any updates from a wii game?

You'll need to use the auto boot creator on the ISO, and the firmware version on the game needs to be higher than the current firmware on the Wii.

It's working for me, sort of....

3rd party GCN controller - which allows all 4 d-pad buttons to be pressed at once... not sure if this is normal.

PAL Wii, 3.3E (the old 3.3), Wasabi v1 with 1.4fw. It seems to only work in port 4... and even then, when I put in a game I just get black screen. Wiimotes won't sync, 3.3 (EUR) goes away.

I've tried other controller ports, and memory cards out, and leaving the dpad buttons pressed after putting in the disc but haven't had any luck.

Here's a pic of my controller... this style of d-pad lets you push all 4 at once

EDIT: I suspect that my problems may be mod chip related... Wasabi has some fancy update blocking and stuff!

No that's pretty much what the rescu menu is. A black screen with the version-number in the bottom right.
From there you can install updates of games that are newer than your system menu, start autoboot homebrew discs if you are on 3.2 or lower or start an autoboot twilight princess and use the twilight hack (if you had it installed previously).

Sorry, Maybe I wasn't being clear...

I get to the rescue menu... black screen with 3.3 (EUR) in the corner. No health and safety warning.

When I put a disc in however, it spins the disc up as it would normally, then I get a black screen and it goes no further. I get this with autoboot twilight princess and wiisports.

Does the disc have to be flagged as auto-boot to work from rescue menu? Maybe i stuffed up my autoboot flag on twilight? I didn't think this was the case though... it should boot originals (ie, TP original) right?
