Sorry for not trying this but i have one and only Wii.

The only prob is that Waninkokos downgrade tools, i think, they need wireless connection to download some files. But wii in this service mode....i don't know maybe it doesn't initialize the wireless.

After that a clever guy out there will create a tool to back up our working WiiOS files and generate a autoboot disk that writes those files back to flash. Of course i just say things and things that i don't even know how hard is to make them.
This wii was bricked on the "Opera error" screen while it was trying to load the health warning screen (I think it had some PAL game with old 2.x system menu installed on it and that causes full bricks. One game I know that cause full bricks with cross region updates is RE4)

Holding the buttons wile powering it on resulted on a black screen (typical of system menu 2.x) and then I inserted the SSBM disc and wait for a few minutes. then it reset and shown the first startup screen (country settings)

There's no mistery and no reason to use a modified HBC disc with this method.

And by the way wii is already working... Now I need to find parts to put it together (this will be a guinea pig wii for me playing with hardware hacks.)

Anyboy got the amber light Brick on firmware 2.x

I think this must mean the nand flash that is screwed, really odd thing is the disc loads but does not spin or toc the only way you can get it to spin is power cycle with the disc in the unit and it spins

Anybody eles seen this?

How did it brick that way ? To be able to run the recovery mode you need the following parts of the system to be in place:

BOOT2, IOS30 and System Menu.

I don't know how the wii would behave without them but I believe you would get something similar to having the NAND chip removed.

Maybe you should wait for Bushing and Marcan to finish BootMii.

To those of you having problems with auto-booting....

I was using "Wii Autoboot Creator English" to flag my discs as autoboot and this was not working.

This morning I tried "Wii_BootMe" - Wii BootMe - WiiBrew & it works. Try this before giving up on your mod chip.

Savemiifrii is working quite well for me now, it's nice to have more bootpaths .
I'm glad my tool could help you, heh

Love your work CorteX

With regards to the orange brick, just thinking outside the box a bit, have you tried a different power pack? Did you do anything catastrophically silly to make it this way?

The Wii is pretty much like the XBOX360 and PS3 on how it manages it's NAND flash. The filesystem is encrypted and hashed so the only way you could edit it is having the nand encryption keys and the HMAC hash, as ChipD just said.
I aways dump the device keys/certificates with Bushing's xyzzy tool before doing anything funky with the wii nand as with that info I can undo the damage should I need to.

I confirm it works with a ps2->GC adapter. It may work with other accesories that send the same signal like a dancing carpet.

I won't need to open any gc controller, my non official ps2 controller works like a charm for that ^^
