Wii Wii Shop and IOS51 installer

Muzer has released Wii Shop and IOS51 installer, a very quick hack of PatchMii that allows you to access the wii shop channel without losing all the functionality of fakesigned stuff.

Quote:
Wii Shop and IOS51 installer is a very quick modification of PatchMii modified by Muzer that does one thing: It installs the new IOS51 and Wii Shop Channel, without installing the patches to all the other IOSes. This means that as long as you didn't update, you can now install this to use the Wii Shop Channel but keep all the benefits of not having the update.

Anybody at all could have made this, just everyone is too busy at the moment, so I figured I would make it. It's literally modifying 4 lines of code and commenting out a bunch of stuff. Because of this I didn't bother to include the source in the package, but if anyone wants me to, I'll happily include it.

This does not have the same effects as updating, so you get the best of both worlds.

You can do this on any system menu version and it will work fine, keeping the system menu version you have.

I made the program as two separate dol files, because it's easier and quicker for me that way, if this lasts a while I'll make a version that combines the two files.

NOTE: TAKE OUT ANY GAMECUBE MEMORY CARDS/CONTROLLERS AND USB DEVICES BEFORE INSTALLING ANYTHING. The first time one person installed the IOS51, and Shop Channel. One person had a Gamecube memory card, and a wireless adapter in the Wii, and it didn't install correctly. But after taking out all Gamecube items, re-installed everything and it worked fine. Axelpaxel was the one that found that USB devices did it too.

Instructions: Simply load one file, then the other. It does not matter in which order you load them. Use any method.

Update: Matthew_8 has kindly repackaged my app into a more noob friendly version which is formatted for the homebrew channel. Download: http://muzer.hbcapps.com/updater%20noob%20edition.rar

Update2: I think I fixed a weird bug many people were having: http://muzer.hbcapps.com/updater%20noob%202.tar.gz

Update3: Source code: http://muzer.hbcapps.com/updater%20source.tar.gz

Another version (by tona) exists which will install both IOS51 and the Shop Channel in the same installer. It also will patch the signature hash check out of IOS51 for you (fakesign bug), although this is pretty useless.

Very nice indeed!
It even works for those of us that still are on 3.2!

umm correct me if I’m wrong but what is the point of doing this....
if you don’t have the new update then why would you need to use this does it have any positives of having iso51 the only thing would be the shop Channel but other than that there’s no resin to update right?

and shouldn’t we be looking how to get thing working if you have the full new iso's?
from what I see this doesn't solve anything for the people that have update but give you the shop Channel back.
What I’m saying is if you haven’t updated why use this and if you have updated what good is this
I think we should just work on how to get thing working on the Nintendo’s full firmware
But nevertheless good work and making this app

If you haven't updated you can't access the shop channel anymore, this lets you access the shop channel again! If you have updated, this is no good to you.

this is exactly what i need! i'm still on 3.2U - bc someday i might get around to playing the uncensored version of manhunt 2. i'm sure there's other ways of going about that by now, but not updating the firmware sure was a lot easier. geez N, stop being dicks. :P

people this is very simple.

It works like a firmware version faker to put in laymen's terms.

Its only necessary for the shop channel from what I can tell, if you do not connect to the shop channel then you don't have to touch anything.

small explanation: System has firmware 3.2 right now for example. Latest version is 3.4 on nintendos servers. Nintendo wants all firmwares below 3.3 to be updated to 3.4 so when trying to access shop channel it forces you to 3.4 or won't let you access it.
Installing this leaves 3.2 firmware in tact, but 'fakes' version to 3.4 so nintendo servers gives system the OK to access the shop channel - which otherwise requires the latest firmware hack to protect nintendos from the HBC.

Honestly it likely isn't faking anything, but in simple terms this is what you are achieving.

no problems here. karyuudo, i'm assuming your wii has internet connectivity right? also of note, i did not have to remove my wired LAN adapter (plugged into the USB port) for the update to succeed.

I have soldered a gamecube memory card to the internals, do I need to unsolder it before updating this way?
