Wii BREAKING: Wii Firmware Update Live

Nintendo has issued a new update for the Wii firmware. Reports indicate that the version number DOES NOT change with this update. It appears to be an update to the Photo Channel but it is not recommended to allow your Wii to install this update until more information is available.

UPDATE: No one is reporting any problems after updating so it appears to have just been a minor fix.

VERY doubtful. Nintendo would put the new update through a ton of testing before releasing it. So I wouldn't expect a fix for the piracy.softmod anytime soon. It will probably take them a couple of months to complete testing and evaluation.

Mind adding the source of the story?

I've been searching the other scene sites and haven't seen any stories of it. I'd like to see the comment's of the people actually installing it & commenting on it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but haven't other soft mod exploits on older systems been done through exploiting a photo file or a font?

hmmmm

A new photo channel for printing photos launched in Japan today, no?
Probably required an update to their photo channel and firmware to make it happen.
And whether or not they plan to have something similar for other countries, it would make sense to keep the programming for the photo channel consistent across regions.

the PSP had the tiff exploit for downgrading from 2.00 to 1.5 which then would allow you to upgrade to a custom firmware.
