As promised, you can now find the Upgrade Disc 1.2 BETA in the Downloads section. Here is a list of changes:
* Added D2E support (Wasabi rev.2 only)
* Fixed slow reset-to-spinning time problem that existed on some rare installs
* Various drivecode improvements for all drive versions (DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2)
Be sure to read the README.TXT file before upgrading.
Sorry if this seems like a real noob question, but why is it that wasabi can release all their updates via dvd - while d2pro sometimes requires the d2prog?
And please no bashing war --- I really don't care which company did what first or stole whatever from each other. Does it really matter? As long as they work, that's my concern.
Anyways... was just curious why one can upgrade without a d2prog and the other can sometimes, but not always.
D2PRO could probably release a DVD update to work for D2E also but have chosen not to. The simple fact is the Actel code obviously doesn’t need updating to support D2E that’s why it can be patched via DVD.
The bottem line is if the Actel chip needs updating then it must be done by JTAG or sending it back to factory. ONLY the SPI can be updated via DVD so it all depends on which chip needs an update.
I think the DVD update can surely update the Actel (as the actel series has in-circuit serial programming - look at the PS2), but the developers wanted to juice the system so they invented the jtag update system to make chips 'futureproof' - while great in theory, is useless in practice if no updates come out that use it.
I would think the actel code would rarely have to be changed, its setup to work more like a translator to do what the console needs done depending on what the console is doing. The flash/SPI holds the actual modification info, actel transates the DVD drive process and patches what needs to be done depending on the info in the flash.. Maybe this isn't how it works, but theres no SPI on the wasabi and it can update via DVD...
Instead of turning this into a Jtag is bad/good/ripoff/waste of time conversation again I'd rather go with any comments about the Wasabi of actual use, for example:

D2E support is Wasabi2, fair enough.
Slow reset-to-spin problem? Is this the installs that required a capacitor fitted to them on Wasabi V1's or is this something else?
Will I toast the three Wasabi V1 chips I have here if I try to update them with this ISO?
And if this is the fix, it was hardly "some rare installs" it was on all 4 I did and loads more reported here and elsewhere, and it's the reason it has me questioning this update will work on a V1 Wasabi.
I will, however, be absolutely over the moon if it DOES cure the issues.
Well i had a wasabi v2 installed in one of my D2E drives and it seems to be working fine. I actually quite like this drive revision and even though i am not keen on wassabi, i have not sen any reason to switch too another chip just yet. I have 3 drives and there are 3 chips i want too test and thats fine by me as i can compare boot success and times etc
I updated my D2B recently and I am happy to report that I have noticed no change at all in performance... I was supprised how quickly it did it, mine did not hang it just zoomed through quite happy and then asked for a reset upon completion... It's always good to have the latest firmware available though (Unless it's for your Wii) so I'm happy...

No, this is an issue that I experienced on some D2C2 drives with Wasabi 2 installed. After inserting a game sometimes it took more than 5 or 10 seconds for the disc to start spinning. I reported it to Team Wasabi and they sent me a temporary update for this issue and asked me to test it. And indeed, the problem was solved by this update. So now this fix is also included in the 1.2 update on their website.

I've read in another of your posts that the Wasabi team have answered you when you've mailed them, to that I say well done!
I emailed them on this V1 issue months ago before they put the workaround on their site. I was pointed to the workaround by another forum member and to this day I *still* haven't had a reply from the Wasabi team.
It could be the absolutely most solid rock steady chip at the moment for everyone but I'd rather stick with the D2Pro that at least the team involved answers queries and gets to work on fixes almost immediately rather than ignoring mails and problems.
I was so hoping this was the fix for that problem though as I might have gone ordering some V2s with all the positive feedback on here

I totally agree with this point, I have a V1 on a D2B so never had any problems whatsoever with the install or any funtionality issues, it plays back-ups like Originals and thats what we all want at the end of the day...
On the other hand if I did have a serious problem I would like to know that someone would reply to my e-mail (even if it was just to say "we are aware of the problem and are fixing it") the flip side of that though is that maybe they anwsered a few known professionals like Moley and then expected them to distibute the news to the numerous forums and blogs on the net, what the Wasabi team should realise though is that professional modders are not delivery boys for information relating to problems with their mod chips, I believe modders also gave a temporary fix to the Clk wire issue which is never re-assuring...
That said, I could not be happier with the Wasabi chip and it seems the V2 has ironed out all of the problems which the V1 had, it's just a shame they could not communicate to people sooner about the development of the new chip and the incoming firmware upgrade, this sets peoples minds at rest...
Their website was dormant for what seemed an age when they were working on things behind the scenes, they should have communicated this information through their website or via e-mail...
