Nintendo has announced Wii MotionPlus, an accessory for the Wii Remote. The add-on attaches to the bottom of the Wii-mote and more accurately traces motions in 3-D space by better orienting the controller.

Nintendo's upcoming Wii™ MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote™ controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo's commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. I'm interested in seeing how this will improve controls of future games on the platform, particularly FPS games.

are you interested in the part where you are going to have to buy 4 of these things? The wii wants you to spend more on hardware than software. It eats into your software budget and will increase piracy. Do you buy that second guitar or the new mario sports game?

It might also communicate, triangulate, something-else-gate with the balance board which I hear might be used w/ punch out as well...

And in 6 months time the Wii remote v2 that has this built in already will come out.

Have to say though i'm interested in how this may or may not improve game controls for FPS.
