Wii Twilight Hack v0.1beta1

Quote:
This new version of the Twilight Hack is compatible with version 3.3 of the Wii System Menu, using the workarounds explained in previous posts. Thanks to everyone on IRC who contributed to the search for the bugs, and to tmbinc and tehpola for finding the two bugs that make this possible.

Changelog for this release:

* The Twilight Hack is now compatible with version 3.3 of the Wii System Menu.
* Improvements in video configuration. The entire console should now be visible in all video modes, and scrolling has been improved.
* For the USA version, the two variants of the hack have been packed into one save file. Just select the save slot that corresponds to your version of Twilight Pricess when you start the game.
* New savegame icons by drmr. The new icons now show which region that version of the hack is for.
* This version now tries to load boot.dol, and falls back to boot.elf if boot.dol is not found.
* ???????
* Many, many bug fixes.

Default What about Trucha?

With the homebrew fixed, what happens now with the Trucha Signed Discs? Is there now no way at all to:
1. Get games that have been signed to work
2. New games that come out that have eg Error #001 to sign them?

Yes, on the 3.3 update, you have to boot them through the GeckoOS/Region Free, which you can download from here. If I understand correctly, it uses a version of the IOS which Nintendo has not yet patched. Meaning, when they patch it, this method of loading "trucha" signed discs will no longer work.

Nintendo only seems to half-assed when trying to fight piracy and homebrew. I don't think they're quite as dedicated as Microsoft is with the 360 for combatting homebrew/piracy (then again MS has been quite a while, maybe the hackers did make it completely stealthed).

Nintendo can't even keep wii's on the shelf, and they make money on them, so there raking money in hand over fist. I can't see it really being that beneficial to allocate to many resources to stopping modchips and homebrew. A new drive here, a new menu there... nothing too big it seems.

That's a bit misguided, the margin on the hardware is small, so I don't think they're making huge amounts of money on the Wii itself. The licensing fees which Nintendo charges to the developers are high. With a huge hardware base but also huge number of users who don't pay for games = big problem for Nintendo.

Get your fact straight, the direct profit per Wii sold is $49 in the United States and $79 in Europe.
So for a $250 console to profit $49 to $79 that is an approximately a 20%-30% profit margin which is a lot in the console making business.

Nintendo: 3 months of testing for this!

P.S.: This hack is still compatible with 3.2 right? Just checking.
