Update 3: They wrote a special-purpose function to try to check for the exact exploit we used — specifically, if a savegame is for Zelda, it checks the length of 6 strings inside the savefile (two of which are the player name and horse name). It repeats this check for all 3 saveslots, and then another three times for all 3 backup slots.

No, we do not have a response to this yet; we will probably take a few days to formulate one. I predicted Nintendo would *not* do this; I’m disappointed. This was the first bug we found, in the first game we tried. We’ll find others, and they’ll have to try to catch up to each.

Interesting, it appears that nintendo updated IOS30 to include the signature check.

The current Wad installer as far as I know cannot install any of the IOS wads that are found in the update partition of wii games.

I've tried to manually install one several times, and did not succeed.

You can uninstall a given IOS, but not install it.

I would assume that has to do with the fact that the IOS wads do not have the 4 char ID that other wads have.

I case anyone was wondering, I tried this on an older IOS, below 30 so that I would not accidentally brick my Wii since my menu uses 30.

Since the only change appears to be the addition of the sign check, would it be possible to install the older version of IOS30.

Does anyone know if the System Menu expects a certain version of IOS30? That would definitely make installing the older IOS30 a lot harder unless you could change the version number of IOS30.

They did exactly what I thought they would: check the length of the horse's name.

Any game signed with the Trucha sign will no longer work, yes that include error-001 fixed games.

Supposedly, it blocks anything that is "trucha signed", including the Datel Wii Freeloader.

Exploits like the TP Hack are not trivial to find. Not every game is going to have such a bug. If a new exploit is found Nintendo can easily do the same thing to that one with another update. We can turn this into a cat and mouse game, but Nintendo would win this one.

This was bound to happen sooner or later but they will always find something to get around it.

I think Bushing, Marcan and others will soon fix this one, maybe with a custom firmware (like with the original XboX). But I think they're going to include some code which allows us to run backup games without a modchip and/or remove the RSA disc signing completely. After all, TP hack should be avenged in some way.

How about finding an exploit with the opera browser, that could be nice - navigate to a web page and it hacks your console. Of course this too would be fixed with time.

We need a way of offering people the latest update, minus the bad stuff, so removing the trucha and savegame deletion parts. This way people can continue to run the most recent version, but without the bad stuff.
