I dislike this law, but am a Conservative supporter. The ND's or the Libs, in power would likely do something even worse in my opinion, as they are far less 'pro business' the the other two parties.

I am against this bill, and will argue against it. However, there is no way I'd throw the country to the crazy left (ND's) or thieving corrupt liberals (carbon tax on $1.40/litre gas or home heating fuel anyone?) over one piece of legislation.

As far as public perception goes, I can see this law getting tweaked to pass. However, I'd be very surprised if it was tweaked to the point that modchips were acceptable. Listening to talk radio all day long, people who dislike this law are up in arms about not being able to rip encrypted DVD's and CD's.

Not one tiny peep about modchips. Most consumers seem to think they are already illegal, and most of that group AGREE that they probably should be illegal, as they are unaware of their legal uses.

For chipping, this will be an uphill battle.

I voted Conservative in the last election because the Liberals were stealing from my pocket. Unfortunately it seems the Conservatives are now willing to sell my freedoms to the highest bidder. I could never reward such blatant disregard of my rights with a vote for a second term.

I gave up voting along party lines a while back. The three parties have long ago lost their traditional stances, except in rhetoric. Are the Conservatives really for less government involvement in our lives, or are they doing the opposite with bills like these? Are the Liberals really looking out for the common guy, or just lining their own pockets?

My personal belief is the best position for the country is one of damage control - no one party staying in power for more than a term, and preferably with a minority government. If most Canadian citizens did the same, and only rewarded exceptional service to the citizens with a second term, we would have politicians that respected the will of the people.

So I vote Rhino, or maybe Green?

I'll write my MP who is also a member of government.

How this could affect modchips is the least of my worries about this bill.

This gives corporations absolute control over media they release. If they have some useless little DRM on the CD, it becomes illegal to make a copy for the iPod etc. Same with region-encoded DVDs, cell phones and yes, region-encoded video games.

This is a very important issue for all Canadians, as it is all about removal of rights.

Good point, but this is a modchip forum.
