I know of 2 big players in the modchip scene about to resurect there modchips sales sections in the UK and a few big sellers that operate behoind the scenes already got stock on the way.
The question i have, the charges/allegations that have been quashed in MrMods case do they specificly tie to him? I was thinking that the ruling the judge made was for charges against the mentioned trader with specifics to this case, ie 'in this case the copyright infringement was not the case'.

I do think that this will lead to a free for all with modchip installlers (plus a new wave of softmodders looking to increase the quick buck) but i doubt FACT and ELSPA will lie down to that and act as a law into them ownselves as they have done for years anyway.

I would like to know exactly where we stand on this (waiting on lawyers advice) as id like to know if customs will still seize mods and similar devices.

Any chip that contains any of the companies involved Intelectual Property/Code etc will still be illegal. I would imagine we will see lots of chip coming with linux on them or firmware that only allow region free for the UK market but the ability for the end user to upgrade to illegal/copyrighted code/firmware to be added at his/her own leasure.

I would like to see chips that only alllow the use of region locked games or blank devices to keep installers like myself in the clear and a service to users who cannot or dont want to do the upgrade themselves.
At the moment it kinda feels good to be an installer in the UK (we see how long that lasts )

Interesting link

MrModchips Customer Ratings, Reviews and Prices at ResellerRatings

Quote:
On January 29, 2005, the owner of this store made written threats against our company for allowing legitimate customer reviews to be posted here. In his email, he states (quoted word for word):

"Do not make the mistake of thinking I use the legal system. Be aware I have the funds and resources to enable me to do ANYTHING to you. I take your childish threats as means of acceptance and allowance of mistruths to be posted. Please be aware your actions also now ensure your employees and sponsors are also legitimate targets."

On 2/1/2005, the owner of this store mail-bombed our servers with 20,000 bogus emails in an attempt to disrupt our sites and our business.

On 11/14/2005, we received another email threat from the owner of this store.

On 11/18/2005, the owner of this store launched a denial of service attack against our webservers in an attempt to disrupt our sites and our business.

On 12/19/2005, the owner of this store launched a second denial of service attack against our webservers in an attempt to disrupt our sites and our business.

We have reported this person's actions to the FBI and the British Police and we will be following up to ensure that proper action is taken.

Buyer beware.

MrModChips has a VERY big history of threatening his customers if they try to return/query about a product bought from him. Not a very good seller, might be well known but everything has it's dark side.

Dark side, hehe. DDOS attacks are pretty serious

Well with this news - there will be LOTs of websites popping up all over the place. I am sure some will be good, and some bad - time will weed out the shit ones and he will have lots of competitors to deal with.

Neil Higgs is a total idiot he has always been Paul Owen of Xecuters bitch.
If he made any threats he could not back them up,I met him at an old digital forums party just before they all got busted for the DOD stuff.
I can tell you that he is a total pussy.
It was probably something to do with Paul Owen of Xecuter for the DOS attacks by the way.

Haha really, he must be a keyboard gangster then because I've heard of a lot of people getting threatened by him...hard over the internet but when it comes to IRL they are pussies... nothing more annoying

Is Xecuter a UK based company?

EDIT: Just checked xecuter forums and the admin xecuter appears to be from asia

Yes Xecuter is UK under the directions of Paul and his crew. I never had a problem with Neil he always replaced faulty goods. I hope their prices are good when the site re-opens.

Hami you just poped back out of the blue then? Still running techno devices?

Interesting news. Would love to see it in the mainstream media.
