but i'm wondering if the new 9 wire chip would solve the dead drive and eject problem.

NR Reader mode, is the backdoor used originally by Nintendo on the
Gamecube controller to allow dev. disks to boot on their test/debug
units, and as such is not needed on the retail produced Wii systems,
so once used by Wasabi on the new 9wire d2c chips it was quickly
closed on later production runs of the newer d2c firmware, after
Nintendo already closed the original Panasonic debug serial port
used on the early DMS/D2A/D2B chips used by the first PIC chips.

If NR Reader was used with the 9 wire chips then how come the other d2c solutions wouldn't work?

i have 3 out of 20pcs , which make the drive dead. also i have seen at least 4 chips with weird eject problem. d2pro9and d2pro both have the eject issue with some drives from serial number LAH104XXXXX
