Wii Wii FileSystem Dumper v1

Waninkoko has released an app for dumping the NAND file system from your Wii.

Be VERY careful using this (or similar) apps as you can easily brick your console!!!!!

This application dumps the filesystem stored in the Wii NAND
to a SD card using the front SD slot.

| HOW TO USE: |
+-------------+

- Run the .dol/.elf executable using the Twilight Hack or a valid method.
- Insert a SD card with 512MB of free space in the Wii front SD slot.
- Wait until the countdown finishes or press A button in a GC controller.

The filesystem contents will be dumped in a folder called "wii_fs".

It appears to work! It's running through dumping my filesystem as we speak.

hmm any chance of finding that personal wii key from the files and using that to sign other channels/vc games as belonging to our system?

or am i headed in the wrong direction with that?

I really should not have to say this but will just for the hell of it. When using this or any other tool that messes with the Wiis' NAND be very cautious because you can BRICK THE Wii. Be sure not to power off or reset while it is doing its thing.

I'm not too sure where that key is located, but even if it was located in the filesystem, there would be no way as of now to write back onto it with the gathered information.
Frankly, I would be a little frightened to write over my Wii's filesystem unless it is a brand new dashboard (like the original Xbox) or unless it is a VERY simple layout.
Just me though, I know people who "shoot from the hip" when it comes to this stuff. Sometimes it's successful, sometimes it fails.

Just finished dumping. Came out to 155MB, and took quiet a while, and the wii restarted after it finished.

the app didnt seem to dump every file for me judging by certain title's and their file #ing, could be because my sd is currently formatted as fat16 not fat32 though, might retry in the morning

I would be nice if we could compare files from the same VC games from the same region to see if the files are the same.

Since posting these files would be illegal, I would suggest maybe listing the MD5 hash value from files in a given game to see if they match.

So far these are the channel ids I could find:

It appears that the Ids have something to do with the 4 char code for the title.

Super Mario 64 US: 4E414145
Mario Kart 64 US: 4E414245
Vote Channel US: 48414A45
Internet Channel US: 48414445
Metroid Prime 3 Preview US: 48415745

If you break down the Id numbers you can figure out what the 4 char ID is.

for ex: Mario 64
4E = N = N64 Game
41 = A
41 = A
45 = E = USA Game

For this, the Game ID is NAAE
The hexadecimal representation for NAAE is 4E414145

If posting the MD5 from the files from the dump is against forum policy, I'll set up a separate website dedicated for this.

I won't list any MD5's until I am told if I can.

In the meantime I will set-up the website.

PM me if you want to contribute.

Whats the difference between FileSystem Dumper and Nand Dumper (on Waninko's website)? They are different sized files.
