just read my second reply, which describes the differences between using iospatcher +remove update, and using this tool.

either way you have some advantages and some disadvantages. if mk uses ios37, i will most likely use my tool to ensure i get the new channel.

i just released it so everyone can have the chance of chosing between updating or not updating(wadpatcher or iospatcher+wum), while not trucha-fixing their wiis in either option
I still don't get it.

Let's say that MK comes with a system menu that uses IOS37.
You are apparently suggesting that, before you run MK for the first time, you "backup" MK, patch the updated system menu wad on the MK update partition to use IOS30 (etc), burn the modified ISO, and then upgrade using your patched version.

Why? What's the point? Why not just delete the System Menu WAD from the update?

Also, you realize that you won't be able to install a patched WAD if you've already installed a system menu that uses IOS37? Right?

Bushing, can this (or anything else) be used to "force" a specific version of update back onto the Wii to possibly recover from semi-brick (not being to get into settings menu)? That's about the only use I can see for something like this really.

Yes -- you could modify this program slightly to edit the version number of the title instead of the IOS version required. If you increased it, you'd be able to trick the Wii into installing it as a "newer" version.

I still remain of the belief that having a system menu with a hacked signature is a bad idea -- it'd be better to find a way to force the Wii to download the update (either by some menu hack, or a standalone program) ... stay tuned.
