Default Starting From Scratch

So I have a DS Lite, and I would love to have some emulators for it. (The emulators for iPod Touch are kinda slow... Don't tell Zod =D )

Anyway, I have read up a bit and saw that FlashMe is the way of putting custom firmware on your DS, what exactly does custom firmware allow you to do? I also though about buying this product...

http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/...rosd-card.html

States that you do not need to flash your DS and you can still run HomeBrew, emulators, ect. Also, you can use it to flash your firmware if you so desire. Do you think this is the easiest/best way to go?

Also, will this device allow me to play backup DS ROMS? I don't like carrying my whole collection of DS games with me everywhere I go and would like to have my favorites on a Micro SD to take with me... Is this possible with this version of the R4?

There are just so many different flash carts and so many different forums says you need to flash for emulators and so saying you don't... This is alot more confusing than Wii HomeBrew! But I know that the members of WiiNewz will always have a good answer!

Thanks in advance!

first off flash me is pretty much out of date these days, it goes back to when we where useing GBA flash cards in place of useing a device called a passme to pass the NDS funtion to slot 2 so you don't really have to worry about that.

second if you want basic funtion for most homebrew and backups get yourself a nice cheap toptoy and a mirco sd/sdhc card for it. pay about a doller less if you don't want the card reader but I like to have spare readers around

The R4 on your page is a little out of date and dose not even support sdhc and is also overpriced even is you factor in the cost of the memory card. There are newer versions of it though.

We have gone over this before in the fourms but also note that there are more advanced flash carts with specal features if you want to do fancy things like RTS and such also if your planning on getting a DSi you will need a card compatable with them. Fancyer ones range from around $20-$50 depending on how fancy you want to go and most of the $50 rage is bacuase some manufacturers overchage.
