Default Should I upgrade my wii?

Hey all!

I've been out of the scene for a while now and I just got back into it and to my surprise there have been huge advancements from the last time I checked.

Basically, my wii has firmware 3.2U on it and I'm not sure if I should upgrade to 4.0. I want to install the homebrew channel and the usb loader. I know this can be achieved on both version of the firmware but I dunno if I get other benefits or loose any by installing the new firmware. My wii is also hard modded with the first version of the wiikey. The last update for that was the SSBB update.

Does the 4.0 work with the wiikey? If I don't install the new firmware will I be able to play newer games?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply!
Is there a guide for setting up the usb loader and homebrew channel on 3.2U?
I was reading around and others said they use gecko OS. They also said that I don't need to downgrade my IOS because mine is already good!
All the guides I find say to downgrade which make me think its for version 3.3 or higher.

I'm just a little confused on where to go from here.

It's worth it for being able to put VC's on the sd card

Defo install HBC, wad manager 1.4, usb loader and anything else while still on 3.2,, make sure to install ios60 before upgrading, everything should work fine. On 4.0 nin tried to defeat wad installing, this can be defeated using wad manager 1.4 and chosing ios35, easy to do as it's a choice,, then you can dump channels on your sd/sdhc using the wii channel manager

Install HBC, twighlight or bannerbomb,
Install other channels you want, wad manager 1.4, usb loader etc,
install ios60, google it
Upgrade to 4.0, I used the wad
You should have a working 4.0 with sdhc support

I have a dsun and everything works fine, not sure bout Wiikey, should be ok

I have the same question. I have 3.3U, USBLoader, HBC, Backup channel working. Should I upgrade to 4.0? If I upgrade thru Nintendo will everything work?
Thanks in advance.

No, don't upgrade thru nintendo but instead use waninkoko's 4.0 upgrade. sure helps to play newer games.

Thanks for the answer. Is there a good guide to waninkoko's 4.0 upgrade? I searched but found nothing that will help me. Google throws up too many confusing links.
Any help much appreciated.
