What's up with the latest firmware update?

Several days after the update introducint IOS37, MaxConsole reported on "yet another" update with nothing firm about what it does.

I followed their source, a public forum known as NeoGaf, and it was never disputed.

Rather, it was CONFIRMED to exist. Regardless, none of the Wii news sites picked up on it, so I was never aware of being given the "All Clear" or not in regards to updating. MaxConsole had their usual useless speculation, but I heard nothing concrete about homebrew, Trucha-Signer, IOS37, or Freeloader compatibility changes. When this update hit, at that point, we were all expecting Nintendo to "flip the switch" on IOS37 and have the channel menu require it, so I watched all the sites intently for many, many days only to see the topic die right where it started.

I recently bought a second, used, Wii and I would like to know if I should allow it to update past the 3.1U included with SSBB. Considering that NO ONE has said one word about it, I'm starting to believe that the update doesn't even exist [i]despite/I] seeing some Gaffers publicly confirming it.
