Default How to add a switch to a wiikey (SSBB fix)

--==M37R01Dz M0Dz==--
--==Wiikey Switch Install==--

Seeing the non-booting issues with the Wiikey and an authentic copy of Super Smash, we decided to write a tutorial to add a switch to get around the problem.
--==Partz==--
  • Wiikey
  • Micro switch
  • Drill with ¼” drill bit
  • Pliers
  • Electric tape
  • 30awg wire

First off you are going to want to cut 2 pieces of wire about 14” long, strip all 4 ends and tin them with solder. Tin the two legs of your switch as well, and solder one wire to each of the legs from your switch, and wrap the back of the switch in electrical tape to prevent possible shorts.

Next take one wire, and solder it the GND on the DVD drive.

Apply some electrical tape down over your GND wire, leaving room to clearly see the other solder points.

Next install your Wiikey as mentioned in our Wiikey installation tutorial but obviously skipping over GND.

Once your Wiikey is installed, take the other wire from the switch and solder it to GND on the Wiikey itself.

At this point you can fire up your console and test the switch to make sure it is working properly. After you verify it is working properly lets move on to mounting the switch.
On the inside of the case around the power plug terminal you will see fins on the backside of the case.

Take you pliers and snap off the fins giving you a smooth mounting spot.

Now drill your hole, but not to close to the power terminal as you want to leave some space for everything to fit properly and be able to flip the switch on and off.

Fit your switch in and screw on the nut holding it down.

Congratulations, you can now fire on and off your Wiikey at will, and get to play your authentic copy of Super Smash.

Nice simple Wiikey tut! The only things I would add is that 1) everyone should be carefull not to pinch those wires when replacing the cover/metal sheilding because it can and will cut those wires in half and 2) the wires to the switch only need to be about half that long (just flip the cover off towards the backside of the Wii when you dissable in the future - no need to add extra length to those wires when it just risks more interference and less stability.

Sega, you must either
A) port Panzer Dragoon Orta to the Wii or
B) make a sequel on the Wii (an even better option)

Orta is one of the best console shooters of all time, and the Wii's IR pointer is the best console shooter control method ever. This would be legendary. Do it now!
