I know there is a thread already on this but it seems like so many people still do not understand so I'm creating this thread to hopefully clear a few things up.
Reasons for installing a switch varies from just being able to run Wii updates online with your modchip turned off for safety, who knows if Nintendo will ever issue bans like the 360 as well , So being able to turn it off while online for peace of mind is a plus weather it be just for updating or when playing multiplayer games online.
Another reason would be the lack of an update to run the original copy of SSBB with a switch you will be able to run this no problem and any other dual layer originals that may be released in the future. Hopefully the wiikey team will come through with a firmware update on this though.
First disassemble your wii, Once your finished , you want to take the top of the wii and drill a hole in the back of it Circled in red in the picture below. Hole size depends on witch switch you used I used this One and it has been working flawlessly.
After you have your Hole drilled you want to Remove the Nut/washer from your Switch and insert it into the hole.
You can install your switch on the GND or the VCC connection I know in the pics I posted below it says VCC but infact that is the ground connections I used. Was a late night
So now you install all of your wires from your wiikey to your wii , if you use the GND for your switch do not connect the wiikey directly to the wii on the ground , if you choose the VCC same rules apply. You want to use 2 separate wires and connect them with the switch.
Remember to make these 2 wires fairly long, to long is fine you can always cut off excess later, to short and you have to resolder in another wire, your choice. Check the pic for the correct way and also a good place to put your wiikey when installing a switch.
After that you want to put the dvd drive back in place and run the wires down the same side of the wii that the switch is on.
CutOff access wire and solder each wire to a point on the switch. It does not matter what wire goes to what point.
Reassemble your wii , Congrats you now have a switch installed on your wii, that wasn't so hard was it?
Correction on my part as well , the connection I used in this tutorial is actually the GND connection and not the VCC.

Why is that? I would assume that putting the switch on the VCC would cut voltage to the chip, while leaving the ground connected. It seems to me that having no voltage to the chip would be better than having voltage to it without being grounded. But, I may not know something that is important here! Usually to disconnect something, you cut the voltage to it, and being grounded is not a bad thing.
But, if I am dead wrong, correct me and explain why.
Using the ground is the safe way. Imagine the VCC wire got pinched by the metal casing. You'd short 3.3v to ground, prob burning up a wire and possibly damaging the console. If the ground were to get pinched you just cannot disable the chip, no harm no foul.
