I had the D2Sun v3.0 installed by an Australian Modshop.
My Wii is a Japanese NTSC (D2E) new with only update from Links Bowgun Training.
I have some US NTSC backups I want to play (Pitfall & Lost In Blue Shipwrecked), but they are not working (TDK -R burnt @ 4x).
I was told that if I update from any game not Jap NTSC, I will brick my Japanese Wii. So I don't know how to update it to play the games?
Also I am not sure if the D2Sun has been firmware updated & if not, what update to DL...Oh & being a the total newb I am, how to update the firmware?
Any & all advice would be much apreciated...I've read a lot of the forum & have read that all games work no problem with this chip, so just want to know what to do to get it going please?
do ANY backups work? including your own region? did the installer confirm or test the functionality of the unit with you? if it's a new console, you should have the newer wii firmware installed already. perhaps the jumpers on the chip are not set correctly?
Update your wii through the internet to the latest system firmware for your region wii. Then you should be able to play those NTSC games fine. Or better yet, convert your JAP wii to NTSC and play whatever you like.

Those 2 backup games do not work, US NTSC Pitfall & Lost In Blue Shipwrecked). The games I bought in Japan work, Wii Fit & Links Crossbow Training.
I don't know what firmware the Wii is using, only update has been with Links Crossbow Training, Wii Fit worked fine without an update.
The installer said he tested the Wii, but the games he tested did not work. He said I would need to get an update from a newer Japanese Wii game. Wii Fit & Links Crossbow Training are still working, just not games from other region.
I'm guessing links crossbow training is not all that new, it was much cheaper in japan compared to other games.

My Wii is not connected to the internet, does Nintendo provide a download you can put on a usb memory stick or dvd disc to update?
I have no idea, I havn't had a gaming console since the Sega Megadrive lol
Just got this Wii in japan coz it was so much cheaper than in Australia. But i want to play games in English...didn't know I'd have to update & now I'm scared of this Wii brick thing I've read about : /

I DL'ed & installed "wii-system-menu-update-JAP-v288.iso"
It now shows the disc icon top left which is good, but it still wants to update from the game discs. I was told this would brick the wii.
I'm thinking I've only updated the menu, but not the firmware?
If thats right, does anyone know where I can DL the ntsc-j firmware? url?
I would suggest you use other brand blank discs to make a new copy of your backups. Because I had same problems with TDK DVD-Rs. After I made new copies with Verbatim DVD+Rs, all backups worked fine. You may also want to decrease your burning speed a little bit. I always use 2X.

I've ordered some Verbatim DVD-R's I should get by Monday. I'll try them & if they fail I'll try the +R's as you say. Seems more like an update issue though, as the disc is being read & then asking for the update.
Don't bother with +Rs. They won't work unless you specify the booktype before burning the games. Can you not access any copied japanese game to verify if the chip is working at all? Zelda is a good game to test since it is a launch title and will run without needing an update.

I don't have any Japanese copies, only NTSC-US. I have a few Japanese games, but they are not copies.
Is there a windows program I can make iso's of them to burn or just copy straight out?
I read a how to somewhere on making copies & it basically said it was easier to DL iso's, than it was to make them yourself. It made the process sound difficult.
I have not seen any ntsc-j games available anywhere though, only PAL & ntsc-US.
I just want to be able to play games in English, I bought the Japanese Wii coz it was so much cheaper in Japan than Australia. Thinking I could just modchip it & play english games no worries. Wii Fit is all in Japanese & although I enjpy playing it, I have very little idea what they're saying to me lol : /
