D2pro. Goes from Red to Blue a few times b4 it reads.

Ok I have had a few d2pro's that sometimes on boot will go from red to blue (as it should) a few times.

For example:

It will start up and go red then blue. The drive will spin up and after a few seconds it will make the"Dink" noise and basically restart the process. It will then act normal...

Im thinking its the install, but is this normal? I really dont like messing with the drive once it works, as I am in fear of breaking it.

What do you guys think?

Have you tried the clock over oscillator trick? Might wanna give that a shot... I have had a few that did that a couple of times but it wasn't that big a deal overall... Just let them go... Haven't had one since I found that trick so am unsure if it will help, but might be worth a shot anyway.

So i put the C wire (CLK) wire over the oscillator? The black thing with the 4 legs? And this is a "trick"?

Hmm Ill give it a shot. By any chance do you have a pic of this already completed so I can get a good idea of whats going on?

Edit: Oh, and no, the oscillator is the silver/grey thing on the bottom left corner of the D2Pro. You'll see in the pic.

Hey I havent tried the trick yet, but it looks to be promising.

One quick question for you though, How come the wii sometimes automatically turns on when the chip is installed, and you plug in the power to the wii?

Is this normal?

Don't think that is normal... I'd check to see if a pet or a kid is accidentally pushing the power button on the remote??

lol.

Actually my problem was a dirty iron and flux.

The flux I was using has been used so much and is down to very little in the container.

I took the iron and wiped and it was terribly black.

So I did the best I could do and used allot of rubbing alcohol and it made a world of diffrence.

I usually use a nice Weller soldering iron but at my home I have a cheapo 15 watt radio shack iron.

Anyway its working ok... For the moment

I hope I get no DRE's during gameplay >:|
