Yes, it executed a fragment of code, that wrote to a file that told the PSP what version it's Firmware apparently was. ( back then such a file was very simple. ) You would then use the official 1.50 update installer, to install 1.50 over the newer firmware.
It could be say and exploit with the new audio format they introduced, it could have been a simple vulnerability. The browser was never hacked in time unfortunately.
