Just my 2cents worth:
Yes Ryan is right, you do need to protect intellectual property.....even on open source believe it or not. Wii-boss was an awesome chip and cost far more in production than what was ever made profit, thanks to some greedy thieves in china.
From what i can see the wiizard seems to be taking time to make sure it is 100% perfect before release. Without the Jtag this makes their job much harder and will always delay shipping and production. This is precisely why D2pro uses jtag, this way they can finish the base product and ship it out......then make any changes after its shipped out if needed.
D2pro (d2c2 ver) con: Dicky eject on
some consoles (could be updated potentially with a JTAG in future updates, so no biggie)
Wizzard Con: No JTAG
To sum up: If the wiizard gets it right first time (which looks likely), then it wont need the JTAG (excepting some unrelated Nintendo update issue). But I am sure that there are plenty of people that like the comfort of having a JTAG for a "just in case".
