Interesting thread indeed, lot of confusion in people's mind
There is something than most seem to be missing because they are putting too much hope in a custom firmware like they had on the PSP:
1/ the Wii System Menu is NOT a Firmware, this is just a channel title like any other (or quite, because this is the first one automatically launched on startup which make him a very sensitive part of the system), that can be removed or reinstalled, there is nothing new with that, all the required code is already in libogc, discovered by marcan&co.
2/Waninkoko is NOT your new DarkAlex hero-like, it's just like a sorcerer apprentice playing around with some lines of code some smarter people gave him...
Now, the method or "proof of concept", if you prefer, showed in that video is indeed pointless and will never be useful because :
1/ a modified system menu will never be able to do more stuff than we can actually do, it's just like any other piece of code, it is limited by what IOS allowed you to do.
2/ if a new system menu that blocks custom channels come out, you won't be able to load any homebrew since the signature bug used by everything (from custom channels to trucha discs) will be patched so, how do you run this "downgrader" ? the IOS used by Zelda could also be patched in the same time, ruining all possibilities to exploit the "TP-hack".
so my advice: stop dreaming about stuff you don't reallly need and enjoy current homebrew status, what Marcan, Bushing & co have done so far is more than a proof that they are the one you should trust.
